‘Be patient’ - Matthias Jaissle urges caution on £30m Newcastle United new signing
Newcastle United new boy Aladji Bamba has not played since coming on as a substitute against Liverpool.
Matthias Jaissle has called for patience on Newcastle United new recruit Aladji Bamba.
Signed in July, the Frenchman made only 18 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco before Toon chiefs stumped up £30million. Bamba featured in pre-season but has only enjoyed 14 minutes of action in the opening four games.
He was an unused substitute again as Newcastle came from behind to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth. As it stands, the 20-year-old appears to be behind Nico Gonzalez, Lewis Miley, Sean Steur, Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock in the pecking order.
‘Be patient’ - Matthias Jaissle
Ahead of the Carabao Cup trip to Millwall, Toon boss Jaissle highlighted how Bamba is adapting to the rigours of English football. When asked if the midfielder could start, the German said: “First of all, we need to digest the day and see how the lads are responding physically and mentally. AB is a young lad with huge potential, yes.
“But also, we know that we need to be patient with him. We need to give him the time for adaptation. Everyone responds a little bit differently to the physicality, to the intensity of the game. But yeah, like many other players, he could also be an option.”
Matthias Jaissle downplays Millwall crowd
Jaissle also vowed that a hostile atmosphere at The Den will not impact his coaching or the team’s performance. He added: “I like to be on the touchline here at St James' Park, because then we have the full crowd behind us.
“There will be a bit of a special atmosphere down there. I'm aware of that, but it doesn't influence my coaching, but it should not influence the players.
“We need to have the focus on the pitch, what we can influence, and if we're doing a good job, then we can go further (in the cup).”
