Matthias Jaissle rocked by fresh Newcastle United injury worry for Fulham clash
Joelinton has only recently returned to the Newcastle United setup following a hamstring injury.
Joelinton is reportedly a major doubt for Newcastle United’s trip to Fulham this weekend.
The Brazilian played 75 minutes as Matthias Jaissle’s men slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Everton on Monday. Joelinton has played at the base of midfield alongside £50million recruit Nico Gonzalez in recent weeks.
A thigh problem in the final pre-season game against Strasbourg ruled Joelinton out for the first six games of the campaign. The Daily Mail now report that the 30-year-old is suffering with muscle discomfort following the Everton clash and is a doubt for Saturday.
Sean Steur to come in?
Should Joelinton miss out, the noise will only amplify around Sean Steur. The youngster impressed when he came on against Everton and supporters are desperate to see him given a chance to shine.
Jaissle has previously suggested that he is competing for a spot in Newcastle’s starting line-up with Gonzalez. However, given the system has failed in recent weeks, the German could pick Steur to add more control to the engine room.
On a positive note, the same report claims Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley are in contention for Fulham. Neither player has featured since the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa over a fortnight ago.
Joelinton on injury struggles
Speaking to NewcastleWorld last month, Joelinton opened up about his injury struggles. He said: “Yes, it's not been easy. It's (the injuries) been difficult for me. New season, but I have a similar problem that I had last season and before, so it's been a challenge.
“I always keep going and just glad to be back now and I hope I can improve. I hope I can help the boys. Sometimes, we're down, but football can change quickly and you have to be positive.”
