Newcastle defeated Nottingham Forest pretty comfortably last weekend to get off to a strong start, and they will be keen to make it two from two.

In the meantime, Howe and his recruitment staff will be scanning the market for new signings, and with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding St James’ Park.

Enquiry over Chelsea duo

Newcastle are said to have contacted Chelsea over the possibility of signing two stars this summer.

According to i News, the Magpies have asked about Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi, neither of which appear to be immediate starters under Thomas Tuchel this season.

Hudson-Odoi had a role to play last season, while Gallagher impressed during a loan spell with Crystal Palace.

Despite that, it seems he will have to be patient to get his chance, and in the meantime, Newcastle are said to be enquiring about the possibily of signing Gallagher and his teammate Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea already need to strengthen a number of areas, so it seems unlikely they will offload at this point, but there may be a conversation to be had later in the window.

But the Newcastle boss did not have much of an update, saying: “I am really sorry to say no. I am sorry to keep giving you the same answers.

“I want to give you a different response but I can’t. We are no closer currently. Hopefully, the next week or so might be different.”
