Eddie Howe has his man in Sandro Tonali but Newcastle United preparations for a Champions League return are still far from finished this transfer window.

Newcastle United fans may have just got over the excitement of Sandro Tonali touching down on Tyneside and already rumours of a move for Leicester City man Harvey Barnes are buildings.

The forward has a proven Premier League track record but any deal could depend on a Magpies star man leaving the club.

Here's more on that story and a potential loan outgoing from Newcastle United.

Newcastle United Harvey Barnes deal relies on Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle United are seriously considering a move for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes after the star was relegated with the Foxes last season.

The Englishman is said to have 'accepted' St James' Park as a destination and could be available at £35 million.

Eddie Howe has already bolstered his midfield ranks with Sandro Tonali arriving from AC Milan for a hefty £52 million and the Magpies are having to watch their compliance with Financial Fair Play rules.

As such, according to The Telegraph, any deal for Barnes could depend on the club cashing in on Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman has struggled for game time under Eddie Howe and is one of the players rumoured to be potentially leaving St James' Park this summer with Saudi Arabian clubs reportedly willing to spend £40 million for the flashy forward's services.

Wigan Athletic want second Kell Watts spell

Wigan Athletic are looking to bring young Newcastle United star Kell Watts back to the DW Stadium this summer.

The 23-year-old only has one appearance for the Magpies first team but has turned out for both the under-18 and under-23 sides.

Watts spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Wigan and played a vital role in helping the club achieve promotion to the Championship. Wigan Today reports that as the club once again looks to prepare for a League 1 season, a move for Watts is being weighed up.

The Newcastle United centre-back was on loan at Peterborough United last season but suffered a campaign plagued by injury and has 12 months left on his contract at St James' Park.
