‘Huge player’ - Newcastle United respond to Man United ‘sour grapes’ over Lewis Hall
Newcastle United remained robust that Lewis Hall would not be sold over the summer.
Matthias Jaissle fully expects Lewis Hall to be at the centre of intense transfer speculation in January.
However, as was the message to Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel last month, the German insisted he is not for sale at Newcastle United. Toon chiefs had to put up with Red Devils fans, pundits and influencers pushing for Hall to join the club all summer.
The message from Newcastle sources was clear - Hall would not be sold. After losing Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, the Magpies were not under pressure to sell.
Ultimately, an offer from Man United never came and they ended the window without strengthening the position. Hall kept his head down and produced a masterful defensive performance in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Bournemouth clash, Jaissle brushed off the speculation around Hall. He said: “For sure, he will also have interest in winter, like many other players. Every window there will be interest for players from us, definitely.
“We count on him. He's a huge, huge potential player. He's delivering already on a high level, but we all know that there's much more to come. And we are really excited that he is a part of that team, and hopefully also in the long term.”
Newcastle United… a trading club?
Jaissle also robustly dismissed the idea that Newcastle are a trading club. “(Woltemade leaving) no sign of being a trading club. We have a clear idea how we want to play football.
“We have now also what I mentioned, a clear idea how we want to recruit players. Young, talented players with profiles who fit 100 per cent in our idea of how we want to play football.
“And this is just, yeah, really consistent in our approach. And this makes me comfortable looking ahead in the future because that's the base. That you're clear in what you want to do in all departments.
“Not only on the pitch, also the whole management group. And this is special, and this was also an element why I signed here.”
