Crystal Palace tease major injury boost as £98m Newcastle United duo close to return

Crystal Palace look set to welcome back one of their key players against Newcastle United.

Crystal Palace’s number one goalkeeper Dean Henderson is pushing for a return against Newcastle United this weekend.

The England international has been sidelined for the last seven weeks after picking up an ankle injury during pre-season. Henderson initially played through the issue, featuring in Palace’s opening three Premier League matches, before the pain became too much.

The 29-year-old won’t feature in Palace’s Europa League match against Besiktas tonight but could be involved against the Magpies on Sunday afternoon.

“Dean started to train with the team on Monday, so we will see this weekend if he's able to play, but he's not with us for tomorrow,” Palace boss Pierre Sage revealed.

The Eagles have also been boosted by the return of left-back Ben Chilwell, who has recovered from a knee injury that kept him out for three matches, but midfielder Quinten Timber is a doubt. Sage ruled the Dutchman out of the Besiktas encounter but didn’t confirm whether he would be back against Newcastle.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu won’t be available until after the November international break.

“Ben Chilwell is back,” revealed Sage. “Tomiyasu is out until the next international break because he has another injury. We have Quinten Timber, who is out too.”

Newcastle United injury news ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Newcastle have no fresh injury concerns heading into the game, although they are keeping a close eye on £51million summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo after he struggled with illness during last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey are closing in on returns from their respective injuries, but Sunday’s trip to South London could come too soon. Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen both have knee injuries, although only the latter is likely to be out long-term.

Livramento picked up his injury in training before the recent international break, while Jaouen sustained his problem on his France under-21s duty shortly after returning from a hamstring issue.

Jaouen could be out until the turn of the year, but Livramento is expected to step up his comeback in the coming weeks.
