Yankuba Minteh signed for Newcastle United last summer but has spent this season on loan at Feyenoord

Yankuba Minteh is focused on achieving glory with Feyenoord before working his magic at Newcastle United. Toon chiefs forked out £7million to sign the 19-year-old from Danish club Odense BK last summer. However, Newcastle believed his progress would be better suited with a season out on loan.

That led Minteh to Feyenoord, where he has impressed despite PSV Eindhoven running away with the Eredivisie. The Toon wonderkid has scored six goals across all competitions - including one against Celtic in the Champions League.

A right winger is an area Newcastle can improve upon given the doubts over Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. Minteh, who turns 20 this summer, could be given a chance to impress next season to free up funds elsewhere. But the youngster is aiming to wrap up an impressive breakout season at Feyenoord in style. While winning the league might be a stretch, De Stadionclub are favourites to lift the Dutch cup, taking on Groningen in the semi-final tonight.

“I didn’t always have an easy time at Feyenoord,” Minteh told Voetbal. “I got injured, then the African Cup got in the way, so I was able to play less than might have been possible. It is not easy to be a Feyenoord winger.

“You have to score goals and provide assists and perform your defensive duties. That’s a lot, but not an issue for me. That’s how I grew up as a football player: first your tasks, then attack. I'm not done yet at Feyenoord. I want to show more of what I have to offer. We are no longer active in Europe, but there are still plenty of great matches to come.”
