Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has provided his verdict on the heavy defeat to Everton.

Having beaten Chelsea and Manchester United at St James' Park last week and drew 1-1 against Paris Saint-Germain, the Magpies fell way below their usual standards by losing 3-0 at Goodison Park after late goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Bebo.

United face a quick turnaround with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur to come on Sunday afternoon, but Reuben has backed Eddie Howe's men to bounce back.

"Tough match tonight especially after so many games/injuries - we will bounce back," he posted on X. "Thank you to our supporters for making the journey and for your support."

Newcastle were without 13 senior players for the visit to Merseyside, which forced Howe to name the same starting XI for the fouth match in a row.

That is, of course, except for goalkeeper Nick Pope, who underwent surgery on Wednesday after dislocating his shoulder in the weekend victory over Man United. Pope will be sidelined for four months with Martin Dubravka, who started against the Toffees, set to deputise.

The number of absentees has forced Howe to name a depleted bench consisting of two goalkeepers, three under-21s players, plus Lewis Hall, Matt Ritchie, Emil Krafth and Paul Dummett.

There is, however, hope a few players can return from injury in the coming days and weeks.

So far this Premier League season, Newcastle have struggled on the road, winning just one of their seven matches.

They will look to rectify that when they face Spurs on Sunday, where a win will take them above their hosts in the table.
