West Ham United are reportedly ready to compete with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Bristol City’s highly-rated youngster Alex Scott.

The 19-year-old midfielder has already earned international caps at England Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level after impressing for the Championship club ever since he joined the Robins from non-league club Guernsey in December 2019.

Since making his senior debut as a substitute in a 3-2 defeat against Luton in April 2021, Scott has gone on to score five goals and provide seven assists in 81 appearances in all competitions, earning comparisons with England star Jack Grealish along the way. Scott came face-to-face with Grealish on Tuesday night when his side fell to a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in a FA Cup fifth round tie and earned the praise of Pep Guardiola for his performance during the game.

The midfielder had already earned the backing of former Premier League stars Ian Wright and Roy Keane, who both revealed their excitement over his potential ahead of the tie.

Speaking ahead of the tie, Keane told ITV Sport: “This is a great opportunity. He is almost in the shop window tonight with the opportunity to play against great players. He doesn’t get that every week in the Championship.

“I’ve seen him a number of times and everything about him looks like a top footballer with his movement and his control. Everything looks comfortable and I’m excited to see him again tonight.”

Former Arsenal and England striker Wright also gave a seal of approval to the talented midfielder, saying: “I’m looking forward to watching Alex Scott. I watched him play against Preston not long ago and for a game that wasn’t going anywhere, he looked amazing and I’m really looking forward to seeing him play against this calibre of player because they have got such high hopes for him, not only here at Bristol City but in the England setup as well with how good he is.”

Scott put in a promising display against the reigning Premier League champions to give a further indication of his potential to step up to the top tier in the near-future. Several clubs, including Newcastle, are reportedly willing to hand him an opportunity to do so, with the Magpies said to be keen to secure a summer deal before loaning him back to the Championship club next season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the Robins star - but the Daily Mail have now claimed West Ham have thrown their hat into the ring after watching the teenager in action against City on Tuesday night.
