Miguel Almiron scored his first club goal since February 2021 in immense style as the Magpies beat Crystal Palace last night.
Newcastle recorded their sixth consecutive win at St James’ Park, and have now hit the 40-point mark in the Premier League.
The last time sixth consecutive wins were recorded at top flight level was during 2003/04 - Sir Bobby Robson’s final full season at the club.
Eddie Howe’s side currently sit 11th in the league - a feat that seemed unimaginable just a few months ago - and may well consider themselves safe for next season.
The game was very much in Newcastle’s hands for the majority of the 90 minutes, with Palace coming out after half term with much greater haste and urgency than had been seen in the previous 45 minutes but with limited goal-scoring opportunities.
Ultimately, it was Almiron who enjoyed the glory for the night.
The Magpies dominated the midfield and restricted their opponent’s goal-scoring opportunities to just one in the first half.
After half-time, Wilfried Zaha almost equalised for his London club after sending through Odsonne Edouard’s pass just wide of the right-hand goal post.
Zaha then missed a second opportunity for his side as he sent a curling effort just over the crossbar in the final minute of stoppage time.
Speaking after the match, Howe said: “You can very quickly forget where we were and where we’ve come from this season. It’s been great to see the team move forward and develop.”
Let’s take a look at 10 brilliant moments from the match …

2. Bruno Guimaraes on fire
Guimaraes sent the brilliant ball to Almiron and his play against Crystal Palace last night summed up what a truly exceptional season he has having. He was dubbed as a “standout” when he arrived in England in January, and has gone on to prove why he was worth that £40 million.
