5 things to do this weekend in Newcastle

Summer in the city, pizza on the Quayside and the Dacia Magic Weekend offer a fun-stuffed weekend for those looking for activities in Newcastle.

Newcastle upon Tyne offers plenty to those looking for something to do this weekend. Here are just a few ideas to get your weekend started.

A collection of free pop-up events in and around Newcastle City Centre, the Summer in the City event has seen the city centre come to life.

Free events around the area include Screen on the Green, a pop-up cinema screening two films a day, which this weekend will be showing Dolittle at Midday and Nomadland (12a) at 3pm on Saturday September 4, and Playmobil:The Movie at midday and Stardust at 3pm on Sunday September 5.

The Quayside artworks and gardens are set to stay in place until September 12 so if you’ve not seen them yet this weekend is one of the last chances to pay a visit.

Quayside Market

A staple of Newcastle upon Tyne, the Quayside Market is always a great day out.

With NE1 Summer in the City events around the Quayside Market, this weekend should see an excellent mixture of food stalls and the Urban Garden and Quayside Linear Park.

The market is open Sunday 9:30am – 4pm, with a variety of food vendors, artwork and ceramic stalls, as well as vinyl and book sales.

A new grab-and-go opportunity from local pizzeria Scream for Pizza will be ideal for those on the go this weekend.

The Sandyford restaurant is set to open a Quayside-based takeout I Scream for Pizza.

Opening the new venue on the old site of Harvey’s Cafe, Scream for Pizza is to offer pizza by the slice and ice cream sundaes.

Six matches of rugby, plenty of bar offers and an event-stuffed weekend is available to ticketholders of the Dacia Magic Weekend.

Adult day tickets are available from £25 and provide six matches of rugby, with three on Saturday and another three on Sunday.

For ticketholders, discounts at Starbucks, WonderBar and Cineworld are available, as well as plenty of Magic Weekend-themed events, including inflatable fairground rides, a Dacia car showcase and plenty of competitions to enter.

The Gin to My Tonic Festival

A festival celebrating hundreds of gins is taking place on the Domain campus at Northumbria University.

Session times are from 1pm to 5pm or 7pm to 11pm, both on Saturday September 4.
