It signals the start of spring as the flowers start to bloom and baby animals are born. For kids, it’s a time to indulge in all the sweets and chocolate eggs.

Easter Sunday falls on 17 April this year, but why wait till then to start celebrating?

Throughout the North East region there are a tonne of fun, and chocolate filled, activities to do with the whole family.

So, where will kids be able to get their hands on some of the Easter Bunny’s eggs?

Here are some of the Easter egg hunts happening in and around the Newcastle area.

When is the Easter bank holiday?

Easter Sunday falls on 17 April this year. There are two bank holidays surrounding Easter, meaning people will be able to enjoy a four day weekend.

Good Friday will fall on 15 April, and Easter Monday will also be a bank holiday, falling on 18 April.

What Easter egg hunts are there near Newcastle?

Gibside Easter Egg Hunt

Price: £3

Gibside will be hosting lots of fun Easter activities until Tuesday 19 April.

Its Easter egg hunt trail is open from 10am until 4pm, which is when the last entry is granted. The trail will take approximately between 90 and 120 minutes.

There will be a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg for those who complete the trail.

You don’t need to book for this event. There is an admission charge.

Maze Easter Egg Hunt Tynemouth Park 2022

Price: £12.50 per child, £2.50 per adult

Tynemouth Park will be running Easter egg hunts throughout the whole of half term, until 24 April.

There are set to be a tonne of special guests, including the Easter Bunny themself.

The hunt will run in 30 minute intervals from 9 April to 24 April from 9:30am - 5pm.

Included in the price is Easter egg hunt, Easter egg prize, a meet and greet with special characters and the Easter Bunny and much more.

Using the map provided kids will be able to explore the great outdoors, and hunt for different activity stations as they journey around the lake.

The event will run from 9 April to 24 April everyday from 11am to 4pm.

The Easter Family Fun Day hosted by Excel Dance and Martial Arts (held at their academy in Sothall) will take place on the weekend following Easter Sunday and offers plenty to do.
