The actor joined Jeff Beck on stage in Sheffield and London this week.

PIrates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp surprised fans this week when joined Jeff Beck on stage.

The actor performed multiple songs alongside Beck on 29 May at his Sheffield gig before going on to join him again at Beck’s Royal Albert Hall gig in London on 30 May.

The appearances come after Depp’s six week long defamation trial with ex wife Amber Heard in which the jury is currently deliberating.

Hollywood star Johnny Depp stunned fans when he flew to from his libel trial to perform on stage with pop star Jeff Beck during a gig in Sheffield. Depp flew straight from Virginia in the US to join his music collaborator Jeff Beck on his European tour.

So, when is Jeff Beck coming to the North East and will Johnny Depp be joining?

When is Jeff Beck performing in Gateshead?

Jeff Beck is scheduled to play Gateshead on Thursday 2 June.

He will be performing at the Sage in Gateshead which is situated on the gorgeous Quayside.

Tickets can still be purchased for the upcoming show at the Sage Gateshead website.

Prices currently start from £65.50 not including potential booking and handling fees.

How does Johnny Depp know Jeff Beck?

Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp have been friends for around five years. Beck spoke on his friendship with Depp saying he is: “someone who came knocking on my dressing room door about five years ago and we haven’t stopped laughing since”.

The two collaborated on a cover of John Lennon’s Isolation which was released during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

What songs did they perform together in London?

At the London Royal Albert Hall show Depp and Beck covered some of the rock’s greatest hits, including ‘Little Wing’ by Jimi Hendrix, ‘What’s Going On’ by Marvin Gaye, and ‘The Death and Resurrection Show’ by Killing Joke.

Depp was on stage for around 20 minutes performing these songs before going to enjoy the rest of the show.

Depp returned to the stage to join Beck for the encore.

With Depp’s defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard now complete he will no doubt have more time on his hands.

There have been various reports and rumours that Depp is set to accompany Beck on the rest of his UK tour dates following a two night stint alongside Beck in Sheffield and London.

It’s no secret that Johnny Depp has been an avid fan of music and has been involved in the industry for most of his life, as well as being prevalent on the rock scene for most of his career.

In 2012, he formed a band named ‘Hollywood Vampires’ alongside rock legends Alice Cooper and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.

Who is Jeff Beck?

Jeff Beck is a British guitarist and two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He was first inducted in 1992 as part of the Yardbirds and a second time in 2009 as a solo artist.

Over his almost 60 year career Beck has been known to play all types of music from blues rock to jazz fusion.

He rose to prominence with the Yardbirds and later fronted the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice.

Throughout his career, Beck has earned wide critical praise and received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance six times and Best Pop Instrumental Performance once.

In 2014 he received the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.
