The people of Newcastle are set to enjoy meals out at slashed prices next week as NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week returns.

It's the first time in two years the event is being run and organisers are hoping it encourages Geordies back out into the city centre to boost the hospitality industry.

More than 70 restaurants have signed up to drop their prices for the event with special menus being cooked up.

Deals start on Monday, January 17 and run for the week until Sunday, January 23.

Participating restaurants will offer menus at three price points, £10, £15 and £20 per head, to allow customers to enjoy a dinner out without breaking the bank.

Commenting on this January’s Restaurant Week, Ben Whitfield, Head of Marketing and Events at NE1 Ltd said: “We are beyond excited to be launching our 20th NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week and turning the spotlight on the city’s foodie scene, which has been hard hit by the pandemic.

"It is great that food and dining will once again be driving the public into the city."

With so many restaurants to choose from, you might not know where to begin.

Aveika

Aveika is one of Newcastle's most chic offerings thanks to its dazzling decor and Instagramable reputation.

The restaurant is offering two deals, a lunch special with two courses for £10 and three courses for £15 and a dinner special where those prices rise to £15 and £20.

Some menu highlights include Spicy Beef Tacos and Tebasaki Chicken Wings for starter, with a much-loved Katsu Curry and Chilli Beed Robata available for mains.

For dessert, you can treat yourself to Chocolate Fudge Cake, Lime and Chilli Posset or Ice Cream.

Banyan

Banyan is one of Newcastle's newer restaurants and has earned an upmarket reputation since opening its doors.

You can experience the luxury for cheap next week with two courses for £15 and three for £20.

The menu has some 'posh pub food' delights including Sausage & Mash, a Deluxe Burger and Steak Frites.

Cafe Andaluz

If you fancy a gastronomic trip abroad, you can enjoy a tapas feast at Cafe Andaluz.

Set menus are £15 for lunch and £20 for dinner, each offering a different number of tapas and sides.

The tapas menu at Cafe Andaluz is as long as can be, so it's hard to pick just a few highlights, but there's sure to be something even for the pickiest of eaters.

Central Oven & Shaker

Sitting right outside Central Station, there's always a buzz in Central Oven & Shaker.

The restaurant dishes up Neopolitan pizza and whacky cocktail creations.

Two courses are £15 next week with three courses for £20 with the Goats Cheese & Jam pizza looking particularly tempting.

Dacantus

Dacantus is one of the less mainstream restaurants in Newcastle with its smaller size offering a more intimate dining style.

For those who haven't tried the Grey Street business, there's a cut-price tasting menu on offer next week which looks like a great introduction.

It's £15 per person and you share six of the restaurant's best Spanish dishes.

Gino D'Acampo

Without a doubt, one of the Gino D'Acampo restaurant's main attractions is its gorgeous position on the Quayside.

You can eat two courses at the hotspot for £15 next week, with three courses for £20.

Italian classics are on the menu from Rigatoni Arribiatta to Meatballs and Seabass to an Italian Style Cheeseburger.

Hard Rock Cafe

Newcastle's Hard Rock Cafe opened its doors during the pandemic.

The revered chain is an attraction in itself in many cities and hasn't quite hit those heights in Newcastle yet.

Serving up their Twisted Mac, Chicken and Cheese, Tupelo Chicken Tenders, New York Style Cheesecake and American Apple Pie on a two courses for £15 menu and three for £20 menu might help it on its way.

Scream For Pizza

There's a lot of hype about I Scream For Pizza.

Newcastle's pizza scene is a buzzing one, but this joint often rises to the top.

Scream For Pizza's deal menu is serving by the slice, but the £15 option includes a couple of alcoholic drinks.

Khai Khai

It's impossible to write any best-of list about Newcastle restaurants and not include Khai Khai.

The restaurant has been sought after by stars such as Harrison Ford and Alan Shearer for good reason.

Two courses at Khai Khai are £20 next week which, whilst on the more expensive side of options, is a testament to their quality.

Tomahawk Steakhouse

A steak dinner out is always a luxury.

Next week you can enjoy three courses at the Tomahawk Steakhouse, including an 8oz rump steak, for £15.

The menu also includes a whole chunk of Brie on the dessert section for cheese lovers.
