Safe standing is set to be trialled at St James’ Park at the start of the season.

Over the summer break St James’ Park has been undergoing redevelopments and transformations to ensure Newcastle United are Champions League ready next season.

A new high-end hospitality suite is replacing the Gallowgate Club to provide more commercial opportunities for the club and safe standing is set to be trialled at the beginning of the season.

In March it was announced United would trial safe standing for a period at the start of next season. After sending out a survey to supporters, 1,800 in the South East Corner of the stadium will test the licensed standing. It will also be implemented for some away fans on Level 7 of the Leazes end.

And now fresh images have emerged of the development, with many fans eccastic at the change.

One fan commented underneath the pictures: ‘Atmosphere on European cup nights will be electric,’ while another said: ‘It’s a good start. Hope it works and can be extended.’
