Kieran Trippier has taken full responsibility for his costly mistakes in Newcastle United's 3-0 defeat at Everton on Thursday night.

The England right-back was directly at fault for Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure's goals, while he was also the man who played Beto onside as the Toffees added a third in stoppage time.

United's struggles on the road this campaign continue with their only Premier League away win so far coming in September when they beat Sheffield United 8-0.

But there's no time to dwell as Eddie Howe's side face a quick turnaround with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 4:30pm).

“I don’t hide," said Trippier on his errors. "We’ve just got to move on now, we’ve got another big game in three days.

“Listen, it’s one of those where you’ve made mistakes. Players make mistakes – I’ve made a couple today, I hold my hands up, I take responsibility and now it’s about getting on the bike again and getting ready for another big game in three days against Spurs.

“For me personally, obviously I’m very disappointed because of my own actions in certain moments in the game, but that’s something I’ll deal with. I’m an experienced player and I can handle these things.

“But the best thing about it is there’s a game in three days where we can try to put it right.

“It’s another tough test, like every single game in the Premier League, but we can’t dwell on this result and like I said, we need to get on the bike and go again.”

Howe refused to put any blame on Trippier and instead spoke about the 33-year-old's impact since moving to St James' Park for La Liga side Atletico Madrid in January 2022.

"Kieran's been absolutely magnificent since he signed for the football club," said the Newcastle head coach. "He's been incredible and the catalyst for a lot of what has happened with our success.

"Collectively we weren't there tonight, it wasn't anything to do with individual performances."

Trippier will start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Newcastle hope to welcome some players from injury.
