Last week Sandro Tonali was confirmed as a Newcastle United player and this week Swedish striker Alexander Isak has appeared on the front cover of EA FC 2024 - the Magpies really are on the up.

Eddie Howe's side continue to reap the rewards of last season's impressive Premier League campaign and fans will be counting down the days until they return to the Champions League.

Before that, there's still plenty of time for the Newcastle United boss to strengthen his side. Here are the latest transfer rumours from St James' Park.

Young Wolves star emerges as Kieran Tierney back-up option

Newcastle United could make a move for Wolves defender Hugo Bueno should a deal for Arsenal star Kieran Tierney prove too difficult to complete.

The Scottish full-back has become a bit-part player under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium and has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United on the hunt for more game time.

However, that is a deal that has shown little progress with the club reportedly still to finalise talks with Tierney over his future.

As such, Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are preparing back-up options and Football Insider report that 20-year-old Bueno is at the top of that list.

The versatile defender has impressed at Molineux since breaking into the first team last year and offers the same elements to boost the Newcastle United squad as other rumoured options, including Southampton man Tino Livramento.

Barcelona pressure could help Newcastle United force forward move

Newcastle United could be back in with a chance of bringing Barcelona forward Ferran Torres to St James’ Park as a new twist emerges from the Catalan capital.

The Magpies had previously been linked with the former Manchester City man, who would bring needed Champions League experience to Eddie Howe’s side ahead of the team’s return to the competition next year.

Torres started just two of the final nine La Liga matches in Spain but still picked up two goals and two assists in that period. Newcastle United had been linked with a transfer for the star but now it appears Barcelona are looking to let the 23-year-old leave on loan.

SPORT claim that Barcelona are keen to let Torres leave on loan in order to free up the club’s wage bill amidst growing Financial Fair Play pressures with a loan-to-buy clause built in to help their case.
