It was never going to be easy, not after the effort expended in Paris in midweek. However, Newcastle United played their part in easily one of the most one-sided 1-0 victories you're ever likely to see in the Premier League.

Anthony Gordon's solitary strike separated the sides on the night, driving Newcastle up to fifth in the top flight table. It was the least the Magpies deserved, as they dominated their visitors from minute one to 90. Even a late Red Devils' rally was thwarted by the tireless Newcastle starting XI.

Here's our FIVE Newcastle United takeaways from another memorable night under the lights at St James' Park.

'Do the Livramento'

Shola Ameobi seems to have lost his chant. Tino Livramento is, without doubt, a worthy successor to the rather catchy tune, however.

Everyone knew the Magpies were signing a star for the future, one who many have predicted would be a Premier League and international star for years to come. I'm not sure people thought he'd be this good, so soon, though.

Marcus Rashford may well out of form and out of sorts, but he was made to look totally daft by Livramento. He didn't know whether he was coming or going, the youngster surged past him so often.

What an outlet the former Chelsea and Southampton man is proving on the left, in a role he had never played at Premier League level. The future is bright - and so is the present!

Bruno's world

This is Bruno Guimaraes' world - and we're all just living in it.

He loves a battle and in a week, he's dominated Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte and done the same - and more - to the Premier League's other Bruno, Bruno Fernandes.

Thing is, he is making it look easy. He's been very good in his time at Newcastle, but never more influential and consistent, at such a high level.

I've said time and time again, it was like planting an alien in the Magpies' midfield when he first arrived - he's definitely otherworldly at the moment.

Form temporary, class permanent

Kieran Trippier is already regarded as potentially the greatest right back to wear black and white. What is in no doubt, he is the best in the modern era.

While he may have suffered a form dip prior to the international break, that looks like a distant memory right now.

Against his boyhood heroes, he was a colossus. Defensively, bar a 10 minute period, he pocketed Alejandro Garnacho. Offensively, he was a threat all day long. Another assist in the bank, too.

Gordon shows Rashford how it is done

Are you watching Gareth Southgate? You'd imagine he was. And if he was, he can't help but have been impressed by what he saw from goalscorer Gordon.

While Rashford toiled, showing little to no heart or battle on the Man United right, Gordon was a livewire on the Magpies' left on the day where England's Euro 2024 opponents were named.

Rashford definitely has cash in the bank when it comes to England selection - and we all know how Southgate works, but surely Gordon has to come into the reckoning. There are few better widemen in English football at the moment.

Goals and assists were what was missing. He's got them on tap at present.

The ONLY negative!

Another injury to add to the list, that's pretty much the only thing that can even threaten to take an ounce of shine of the evening.

Nick Pope looked to be in a world of pain when he went off with what looked like a bad shoulder injury.

Martin Dubravka is an able understudy, but the team will definitely miss Pope's commanding presence, and ability to pluck crosses out the air at ease.

And there's Anthony Gordon, too, who was limping about after feeling tightness in his hip but Howe is hopeful the winger will be OK for a return to former club Everton on Thursday.
