'They're just like' - Simon Jordan takes aim at Newcastle United fans after Everton boos

Newcastle United were booed off following their 1-0 defeat to Everton at St James’ Park.

Simon Jordan has taken a swipe at Newcastle United fans after they booed Matthias Jaissle and his players following Monday night's 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Jaissle’s side slumped to a second consecutive defeat at St James’ Park and a fifth loss in seven matches following Thierno Barry’s 49th-minute winner.

It was another performance in which the Magpies looked vulnerable at the back and toothless in attack, taking until the 85th minute to register their first shot on target.

Simon Jordan takes swipe at Newcastle United fans

Newcastle supporters made their frustrations known at full-time whistle. Many exited the ground by then, while those who stayed could be heard booing.

And when asked about the boos, Jordan used the opportunity to take a swipe at Newcastle fans.

Jordan told talkSPORT: “There is instantaneous gratification that they require and they obviously have ambitions for their football club. Newcastle fans are revered and admired as being great supporters of their club. I've always maintained that they're just like any other football supporter.

“I've not been up in this sort of mindset they're the best supporters ever. I used to have this argument with Sir John Hall about the famous Geordie Roar that I never only heard until they scored a goal. They're just like every other team they support.

“I think there was a few issues last year with games with Eddie [Howe] that there was a little bit on the turn because they weren't getting what they expected, obviously it hasn't panned out there where they wanted to.

“They can't run around now with all their mock Middle Eastern gear on celebrating the ownership model because it's not being able to deliver the outcomes that they thought they were going to get from them.”

Simon Jordan: ‘Matthias Jaissle must be given time’

Jaissle has only been in the job for three months, and while Newcastle’s early performances have raised concerns, Jordan has backed the German to turn things around.

“This new manager's got to be given a little bit of time,” Jordan added. “I quite like him.

“This guy's coming into a big football club with big expectations following a really decent manager in Eddie Howe and I think he needs to be given a little bit of time.

“The recruitment I don't think has been brilliant, I think [Yoane] Wissa is coming alive a little bit more, they're waiting for him but he's still not at where he needs to be. The other players in the side are not operating at the level.

“They lose their best players, they lose Tonali, they lose Guimaraes, they lose Isak, I mean, these are not average players and I always question Tonali because I think he went to Tottenham for the money because if you were going somewhere at that stage and other clubs were bigger for you then why would you go to Tottenham?

“You've ripped the best players out of the team and you're expecting the same outcomes.”
