'Important' - Matias Fernandez-Pardo posts message on Newcastle United win as Lewis Hall responds
Matias Fernandez-Pardo ran his socks off to little avail in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Hull City.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo has taken to social media to hail an "important" win ahead of the international break.
Newcastle United were brilliant for the opening hour in the 2-1 win over Hull City. However, in true Toon fashion, Matthias Jaissle’s men almost surrendered all three points away.
Hull pressed the action after pegging a goal back and Newcastle fans scarred from last season feared the worst. However, the Magpies repelled the waves of Tigers attack to cling on for a hard-fought victory.
‘Important W’ - Matias Fernandez-Pardo
New recruit Fernandez-Pardo played 74 minutes as a lone striker before hobbling off. It is not feared that the 21-year-old - called up to the Belgium squad for the international break - has suffered a serious injury.
While his work rate could never be questioned, Fernandez-Pardo struggled to make an impact on the game. He is still adjusting to the rigours of English football, with Newcastle fans debating whether a spell out wide could be beneficial.
In an Instagram message post-match, Fernandez-Pardo highlighted the importance of heading into the three-week lay-off with a win. Toon teammate Lewis Hall replied with a love-heart emoji.
Matthias Jaissle provides fitness update
Jaissle provided a fitness update on Sean Steur and Fernandez-Pardo at his post-match press conference. He told reporters: “Hopefully, only fatigue and tired legs. Again, it’s part of our brave approach in the summer signings and the brave approach for the long-term journey here in Newcastle.
“These are young lads. You saw that after 50 or 60 minutes their legs are getting tired, so this is the adaptation they need now for the physicality of that league.”
