Newcastle United have unearthed 'special talent' as January transfer decision looms

Newcastle United youngster Sean Neave opened his account for Wolverhampton Wanderers in dramatic fashion.

Newcastle United loanee Sean Neave enjoyed a breakthrough night for Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring twice in the closing stages to inspire a dramatic Championship comeback against Bristol City.

Newcastle United's Sean Neave announced himself on the senior stage in spectacular fashion on Wednesday evening, netting his first two professional league goals to secure a 2-1 victory for Wolves at Ashton Gate.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined the Championship club on loan during the closing stages of the summer transfer window, came off the bench to turn the match on its head with two late goals.

Neave's move to Molineux had initially raised eyebrows given the attacking competition provided by former Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong and Raul Jimenez.

However, a serious injury to Jimenez has opened the door for the teenager to establish himself in the first-team picture.

Having already registered an assist on his first senior league start against Burnley last month, Neave has now taken another significant step in his development.

Wolves appeared destined for defeat against Bristol City after Scott Twine's first-half opener handed the hosts a slender advantage.

Neave was introduced in the 73rd minute and needed just nine minutes to make his mark, converting from close range to bring Wolves level.

Former Newcastle players Kieran Trippier and Armstrong were involved in the build-up to the equaliser, but the teenager was not finished there.

With just a minute of normal time remaining, Neave rose to meet a Trippier free-kick and headed home the winner to complete a remarkable turnaround.

It was a particularly memorable occasion for the youngster, who had previously featured at Ashton Gate during Newcastle's 4-1 pre-season defeat to Bristol City.

Following the final whistle, Trippier took to Instagram to praise his former Newcastle teammate, sharing a photograph of Neave celebrating alongside the message: “Match winner Sean Neave. A special talent.”

Speaking to Sky Sports after his match-winning contribution, Neave struggled to contain his excitement.

“It means a lot. I've got no words, really. I'm out of breath celebrating with the fans!

“It means so much. I've worked so hard to get here. To come on and score a goal, in my opinion, would be a good game for me. To score two and win the game, I just wasn't expecting that.”

The Newcastle youngster also admitted he had been caught up in the emotion of celebrating with the travelling Wolves supporters.

“Yes, I forgot where I was for a minute there. It means so much. The fans have been with me throughout the whole journey. To score two in front of them and win the game means a lot.”

Neave's impressive contribution will undoubtedly have caught the attention of those monitoring his progress back at St James' Park.

The teenager's two-goal cameo means he has already scored more senior goals this season than Newcastle forwards Yoane Wissa, William Osula and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Newcastle retain the option to recall Neave during the January transfer window, although regular Championship football could prove invaluable for his continued development.

For now, the teenager will be hoping his match-winning performance earns him further opportunities at Wolves as he looks to build on an unforgettable night in Bristol.
