Matthias Jaissle ready to unleash £75m Newcastle United duo supporters have been crying out for v Fulham

Matthias Jaissle has delivered an encouraging verdict on Sean Steur at Newcastle United.

Matthias Jaissle wants to get Sean Steur on the pitch more often for Newcastle United.

The 18-year-old has largely impressed for the Magpies despite limited game time and put in another encouraging cameo performance against Everton on Monday night.

Jaissle hailed Steur’s performance against Hull City back in September as ‘exceptional’ but hasn’t started the teenage midfielder since.

The German head coach felt marquee summer signing Nico Gonzalez’s return to the squad after missing the Hull match has impacted Steur’s involvement due to the ‘similar profile’ of the pair.

The £75million summer signing duo are yet to start a game together and have only briefly been on the pitch together at the same time, as Steur came off the bench in the closing stages of the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Newcastle return to Premier League action at Fulham on Saturday where Jaissle will be without the suspended Jacob Ramsey or injured Joelinton in midfield. Lewis Miley is also a slight fitness concern having missed the last three matches with a glute problem.

It leaves Steur with a good opportunity to come back into the starting line-up, potentially starting alongside Gonzalez for the first time.

“With Sean I think we are all really clear and he also showed that now in the last match that he can contribute a lot of good things into our game even though the match was a bit different at the end of the match against Everton,” Jaissle said.

“He has so much potential. They [Steur and Gonzalez] are similar players definitely, similar profiles so we need to find a way that he's able also to play more minutes, as his progress is going in the right direction.”
