Newly-appointed Newcastle United scout Marcel Bout has given a major indication of what could lie ahead for the Magpies as he settles into his new role at St James Park.

The 60-year-old has taken up a key position within the United transfer hierarchy earlier this month after he was confirmed as the club's head of global scouting.

The decision to bring in the former Manchester United scout was welcomed by Magpies manager Eddie Howe as he described Bout as 'a welcome addition' when he was asked about his arrival before last weekend's defeat at Bournemouth.

The move to bring in Bout is the latest step in the ongoing development of United's recruitment staff as the Dutchman joins a whole host of new arrivals that have been confirmed at all age groups within the club over the last 12 months.

Bout has now given a clear indication of what will fall under his remit as he looks to help Newcastle identify 'big talents' that could potentially follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in world football.

He told The Mirror: “I am looking for the new (Erling) Haaland, (Jude) Bellingham and (Jamal) Musiala.

“I am focusing on young talent up to 23 years old who have the potential to get into Newcastle’s first team. My motto is that if you constantly look to the left then you can’t see anything on the right. So I look everywhere. Newcastle have brought me in to find all the big talents. I want to find the pounds among the pennies.

“It is my ambition to not only point out those big talents, but also to put everything into place so these players immediately arrive at Newcastle United. I want to bring them in before they are worth £100 million.”

The Magpies have already been linked with several promising youngsters in recent months after the likes of Santos forward Marcos Leonardo, Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton and Valencia star Javi Guerra were all mentioned as possible targets.
