Ross Wilson has already dropped Lewis Hall transfer hint as Newcastle United contract close
Lewis Hall is close to agreeing a new lucrative contract at Newcastle United until 2031.
Ross Wilson told reporters just last week that Newcastle United could sell more big stars in future.
A chaotic 13 months have resulted in Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes leaving the club. The crux of the team that won the Carabao Cup and secured two Champions League qualifications has been dismantled.
As part of Newcastle 2.0, Toon chiefs lowered the age profile of the squad over the summer. Lewis Miley - one of the best academy products in a generation - also penned a contract extension.
Lewis Hall set for 2031 extension
Hall - who turned 22 on Tuesday - is also set for a new deal. The Magpies are working on an extension that will tie the left-back down until 2031.
For now, this will negate the Manchester United interest that persisted all summer. Newcastle sources remained adamant throughout the window that Hall was not for sale.
Penning fresh terms is the best solution for all parties, allowing the Magpies to protect their asset while Hall improves his pay packet. The defender is guaranteed first-team football and can grow under Matthias Jaissle.
At his age, Hall - a boyhood Newcastle fan - remains a baby in football terms. There is no rush to force a transfer and his camp can reassess where the Saudi-backed project sits a few years from now.
As for the Magpies, there is an acceptance that big players may need to move on. The cards came crashing down at once earlier this year when three high-profile stars left at once.
Ross Wilson on trading shift
Newcastle would not want a repeat of the situation and are keen to act prudently in future. Speaking last week, sporting director Wilson told reporters: "If you want to be a successful club in the Premier League, you have to trade players and, if you don't, the chances are you won't be a successful club in the Premier League.
"This is what we've got to do. And if you don't do it, then just keep the squad you've got and forevermore they'll grow old, achieve less and leave for nothing."
