Osasuna have already made 'complicated' Victor Munoz transfer decision as Newcastle United in talks

Newcastle United are pushing to sign Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

Newcastle United want to make Victor Munoz from Osasuna their second signing of the summer.

The club are in discussions with the La Liga side to sign the 22-year-old as a replacement for Anthony Gordon, who secured a £70million move to Barcelona earlier this month.

NewcastleWorld understands the Magpies are growing in confidence that they can strike a deal for the two-time Spain international, who is currently at the World Cup in North America.

Real Madrid transfer clause

But Newcastle will have to overcome some significant transfer clauses involving Real Madrid. Something they failed to do with Manchester City and James Trafford last summer.

Munoz joined Osasuna from Real Madrid last summer for a total fee of around £5million, which included a release clause of around £35million. Real Madrid also inserted buy-back clause for Munoz and hold 50% of his economic rights should the forward be sold on, entitling them to half of a sell-on fee should they agree not to buy him back.

Munoz went on to score seven goals in 37 appearances for Osasuna last season, attracting plenty of interest in the process.

As Newcastle push to strike a deal, they will also have to hope Real Madrid keep their distance and avoid triggering a buy-back.

The Magpies encountered that exact problem last summer with their pursuit of Trafford from Burnley as Manchester City swooped in to exercise a buy-back clause and sign the goalkeeper.

Newcastle are currently negotiating a fee understood to be below Munoz’s release clause. This comes after Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vazquez went public in insisting the player would only be sold for his £35million release clause.

Osasuna chief delivers official transfer stance

Osasuna chief Braulio Vázquez insists winger Victor Munoz will only leave for his buyout clause.

“Real Madrid has a three-year buy-back clause that has already been agreed upon," Vazquez confirmed earlier this year.

"What we're doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season. Football is very unpredictable.

"Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they're asking us why we didn't buy him outright.

"It's complicated. We happily accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor Muñoz made the right call, and so did we."
