If you're not from Newcastle, the first monument you think of might be the Angel of the North.

The Angel is worth a visit, but is often a lot further from the city centre than many realise.

In Newcastle, it's all about Grey's Monument. The tower was built in 1838 and stands watch over the city.

It has a colourful history and you can even climb all the way up it and take in the views from the top, but you must book in advance.

One of many reasons why Newcastle is a fantastic city is that there's always something going on.

However, if you're someone who likes to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle, there's still plenty for you to do.

Newcastle is blessed with some fantastic green spaces.

Try taking a stroll along the river and waterfalls in Jesmond Dene.

The most iconic place on Tyneside for your Instagram photos has to be the Quayside.

Newcastle's iconic bridges across the Tyne are always photo-ready, so go along and take your best snap.

The Quayside is a lovely place for a stroll too - take a walk up to the much-loved Tyne Bar for a drink or enjoy a sit-down meal at Pitcher & Piano with fantastic panoramic views.

Okay, we might not have the Mediterranean here in Newcastle, but our coastline is still pretty spectacular.

The views from nearby coastal towns such as Whitley Bay and Tynemouth are not to be missed.

There are a few museums to check out in Newcastle, but The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is probably the pick of the bunch.

It's on the Quayside and frequently has new and free exhibitions.

One of its top floors is a viewing platform with great views over the city too.

If you're in Newcastle for a good time, not a long time, then head down to Lane 7.

Lane 7 is primarily a bowling alley but offers so much more than that.

As well as bowling there's a bar, restaurant, pool tables, ping pong tables and you can even rent some beer pong cups for a game too.

For the one who wants to be quirky...

If you're searching for something fun that others might not find, try heading over to Ouseburn and playing some Ghetto Golf.

It's a short trip out from the centre but worth the journey for the course's wacky design.

As well as the crazy golf, there's an emerging food hub on Ghetto Golf's doorstep in Hoult's Yard.

For the one who loves to pose...

Between Grey's Monument and Quayside, there's plenty of chances to get the perfect Instagram shot around Newcastle.

However, if you're a bit of a posing pro and want to take it to the next level, then try Selfie Central.

Every room has a different theme with props and places to pose, so go along and crack your best smile.
