Newcastle United favourite dealt managerial bombshell just days after signing two-year deal
Wolverhampton Wanderers have changed their manager, just days after signing Newcastle United favourite Kieran Trippier.
Kieran Trippier’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers has descended into chaos, just three days after signing.
The 35-year-old was confirmed as a Wolves player on a two-year deal on Monday night after leaving Newcastle United at the end of his contract.
Trippier made 160 appearances for the Magpies during his four-and-a-half years, helping them to end their 56-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the Champions League twice.
But it wasn’t just on the pitch where Trippier played an integral part, with his leadership off the pitch well-documented by head coach Eddie Howe and his now-former teammates.
Wolves sack Rob Edwards just days after Kieran Trippier signing
As a result, Trippier was highly sought after and turned down offers from a number of clubs to move to Molineux, citing manager Rob Edwards as a huge factor in his decision.
“I had a good chat with the manager, and what struck me first was how passionate he was for helping the club move forward to get out of the Championship next season,” Trippier said. “You just have a feeling straight away and I felt that chemistry straight away with the manager.
Now here comes the plot twist... Wolves have taken the shock decision to sack Edwards and replace him with Portuguese boss Cesar Peixoto.
It’s understood Edwards was informed of his sacking on Thursday morning, less than 72 hours after Trippier’s arrival.
“Wolves have parted company with head coach Rob Edwards and his coaching team,” a statement read.
“Edwards returned to Wolves in November at one of the most challenging periods in the club’s recent history and worked tirelessly, alongside his staff, to stabilise the football operation and help move the club forward.
“Following a comprehensive review at the conclusion of the season, the club has determined that a change in leadership is necessary as Wolves enters the next stage of its development.
“While the club recognises the significant challenges faced by Edwards and his staff during their tenure, and acknowledges the commitment and professionalism they demonstrated throughout, it ultimately concluded that a different sporting direction would provide the strongest platform for future success.”
