Javier Manquillo could leave Newcastle United during this summer’s transfer window as interest from clubs in Spain emerges.

The 29-year-old endured a deeply frustrating campaign last time out. He missed the whole of pre-season with a groin injury and managed just six appearances in total.

The Spaniard’s versatility, either as a right-back or left-back, is extremely useful but with Emil Krafth returning from an ACL injury and signing a new full-back on the agenda, Manquillo is set to drop further down the pecking order.

As first reported by Jac Talbot, it’s understood Manquillo is attracting interest from La Liga sides Getafe and Girona.

Manquillo moved to St James’ Park in 2017 on the back of a season-long spell at Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland. In total, the full-back has made 110 appearances for Newcastle, the majority of which under Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce.

Earlier this week it was revealed Newcastle have held talks with Southampton over right-back Tino Livramento, however a transfer is nowhere close to being completed with both clubs far apart on his valuation.

The Saints want to drive a hard bargain for the 20-year-old, who recently missed 12 months of football due to an ACL injury, because of hefty sell-on clause Chelsea will be entitled to.

Livramento moved to the South Coast from Chelsea for £4million in 2021.
