Love Island star Adam Collard had social media in stitches after posting a hilarious Newcastle United image taunting former player Michael Owen.

Adam first appeared on the hit ITV2 show in 2018 and was sent back into the villa this year for a dramatic return.

The 26-year-old has wasted no time in causing drama, confronting the boys and making his move on two already coupled-up girls.

Adam first spoke to Welsh paramedic Paige Thorne before moving onto Gemma Owen, daughter of former Newcastle United man Michael Owen.

Gemma's appearance on the show has been a talking topic, with the ex-Manchester United and Liverpool striker admitting it's been hard to watch his daughter.

Luckily for Owen, his daughter seems to have found love quickly with fishmonger Luca Bish and has remained far away from this season's biggest drama.

Geordie personal trainer Adam will likely have been watching this year's Love Island series and been aware of Michael Owen's link to the show before heading into the villa over the weekend.

So, when he tried to hit on Gemma, whoever is running Adam's social media accounts while he is away had the perfect image waiting.

The reality star's account shared a picture of Adam's face photoshopped onto that of Alan Shearer's as he celebrated alongside Michael Owen in the black and white of The Magpies.

Twitter users were quick to brand Adam the 'GOAT' for the image, with others labelling it "great banter" and "class".

In the early weeks of this year's Love Island, Owen admitted watching his daughter had been upsetting for his family.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "It's hard because I have three other kids and this is their sister and they are reading this stuff.

"[My wife] has been very upset about it. You can say, 'Don't read it', but that's very difficult.

"To look at my social media feeds you'd think 70% of the world hates me, but it's different when it's your daughter."

Owen scored 26 goals in 71 appearances for Newcastle United and turned out for Real Madrid and Stoke City, as well as Manchester United and Liverpool throughout his career.

He also netted 40 goals in 89 appearances for England between 1998 and 2008.
