Ouch! Watch as former Newcastle United star shockingly gets ran over on the pitch
Andros Townsend was involved in a strange incident while playing for Thai side PT Prachuap.
Former Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend has somehow avoided a serious injury after being run over by a pitch roller.
The 35-year-old - who had a brief six-month spell at St James’ Park in 2016 - now plays for Thai side PT Prachuap. Recent times have seen Townsend become viral on social media for his fitness-freak lifestyle and bizarre dietary habits.
Speaking to the BBC, the former Toon and England winger revealed he eats steamed chicken feet every night to help prolong his football career. But last night, Townsend hit the headlines in worrying circumstances.
Pitch roller drives over Andros Townsend
He was warming up on the touchline when a rogue pitch roller drove over him. Townsend’s leg appeared to buckle but, astonishingly, he left the scene unscathed.
On social media afterwards, Townsend joked “it turns out Stoke away wasn't so bad after all” and that the incident was “just another day in Thai football”. Further memes on his Instagram story cited eating cow testicles as the reason his ACL held together.

Why Andros Townsend left Newcastle United
Speaking in 2016, Townsend opened up about why he needed to leave Newcastle. He was a rare bright spark in his six-month stint that ultimately ended in relegation.
“I proved at Newcastle I am still good enough to play in the Premier League,” Townsend said. “It gave me great confidence again and I got back in the England squad.
“I really enjoyed my time at Newcastle, I make no secret of that. It did cross my mind to stay but I need to be playing Premier League football if I want to make the most of my career.
“A year taking a step back in the Championship when at Spurs I wasn't as playing as much as I'd have liked to, I decided I couldn't really do that. I made the tough decision (to leave).”
