Bookmakers slash price on Matthias Jaissle to face imminent Newcastle United sack after nine Premier League games

Matthias Jaissle is already under pressure at Newcastle United after just nine Premier League games.

Matthias Jaissle is now among the front-runners to face the chop at Newcastle United.

Supporters voiced their displeasure for the second consecutive home game after the Magpies lost 1-0 to Everton. For context, Newcastle have won just one of their last five fixtures across all competitions and sit 13th in the table.

A season of transition was always expected at St James’ Park. High-profile exits like Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes - with Eddie Howe leaving three weeks before the season opener - caused chaos over the summer.

However, concerns have emerged about whether Jaissle can implement his “vertical football” approach. The German has shut down suggestions that he will change his philosophy despite the mixed results.

Bookmakers slash Matthias Jaissle odds

Odds have now tumbled to as short as 6/1 for Jaissle to be the next Premier League manager axed. As it stands, he is the third favourite in the sack race just nine games into his top-flight career.

Michael Carrick (11/10) and Crystal Palace boss Peirre Sage (2/1) are ahead of Jaissle in the running. Interestingly, Regis Le Bris (7/1) sits behind the Newcastle manager, with Sunderland set to travel to St James’ Park next month.

Matthias Jaissle pressure

Our sister title, The Gazette, ran a survey across several social media platforms following the Everton defeat - with 46.8 per cent wanting him gone. Those backing Jaissle (50.06 per cent) formed a slender majority.

Boos echoed around St James’ Park at the full-time whistle on Monday but the club’s hierarchy remain behind the manager. There will be no knee-jerk reaction on Tyneside as a transitional season was always expected.

That said, Newcastle must react against Fulham on Saturday. A tricky fixture list following the international break sees the Magpies face Arsenal (H), Brighton (A), Manchester United (H) and Sunderland (H).
